Music NT Forum

Connecting NT Musicians

Following a successful debut in 2011, Mission Australia is once  again presenting this celebration of young Territorian talent and community.

The competition is open to singers aged from 10 to 19 who can compete in vocal, street, rap and beatboxing categories.

Urban Quest heats will be held in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs during March.

The top performers will then go through to the semi-final at Darwin’s Casuarina Square on 13 April,
with the cream of the crop taking the Darwin Entertainment Centre stage on 15 April before
guest judges, including “touchdown king” Mark Holden and Deni Hines.

Throughout Urban Quest, Mission Australia staff will work with schools to help young people
to focus on their strengths and connect with others in their community.

Participants not only gain live performance experience and get the opportunity to build their
self-esteem through healthy competition and mentoring, but by taking part they will also help
Mission Australia to develop support programs for young Territorians.

Last year Darwin High School’s Tevita Moala took out the competition title after performing a
moving rendition of John Legend’s ‘I Won’t Complain’ at the Urban Quest Grand Final.

Why not start encouraging beatboxers, rappers, street vocalists and singers from your
community/school/friend network to get an act together in preparation for the following heats:

Darwin – 2 March, 2012:
• Palmerston Community Room
• Darwin Middle School
• Malak Theatre

Katherine – 9 March, 2012

• Training Room

Alice Springs – 24 & 25 February, 2012

• Youth Hub
