The Aviators win the triple j Unearthed iNTune Showcase Comp!
Young Darwin band THE AVIATORS won the chance to play at the triple j Unearthed Showcase gig at Darwin Festival, presented by Music NT and triple j.

The Aviators were in competition with over a hundred bands registered in the Darwin region on the triple j Unearthed website. The official announcement was made on triple j by a very keen Scott Dooley who also played The Aviators' 'Your Blues' remix during his 'Dools' Drive program.
When the announcment was made, singer and guitarist Jess Cooper (pictured right with Aviator's lead singer Shana Stringer and triple j's The Doctor) told Music NT that the band were “Really happy – and surprised!” She added that winning the compeition was ”pretty awesome, and it was a bit of a shock – but a good one!” The Aviators rehearsed like blazes for the gig, and while drummer Guy Tooms was recovering from an arm injury, Jess was hopeful that he would somehow join them "on synths!” Along with Jess Cooper, the band line up for the night included accomplished lead singer Shana Stringer, bass player extraordinaire ‘Mega’ Jess Davis and Anthony Jarvis on drums (producer of the killer re-mix of 'Your Blues', on EP Here There Everywhere').
triple j Unearthed producer Stephanie Carrick (who was a speker at iNTune) was excited about The Aviators’ win. “We’ve heard a lot of good things about this young Darwin band. The Aviators showed a lot of energy, enthusiasm and the type of great music triple j is all about.”
Music NT Manager Mark Smith was equally as excited. “The Aviators are known for their awesome live shows and it’s a great opportunity for them to show a diverse industry and Festival audience what they’re made of.”
Music NT partnered with triple j Unearthed and Darwin Festival to offer one Darwin band the opportunity to showcase in front of some of Australia's leading music industry figures and a broader Festival crowd. They were well supported and impressed all in attendance.
Congratulations oto The Aviators, and also to all of the Darwin and region bands who participated in the Unearthed Competition. The response was amazing.
